Model Railroading

Why do I like model railroading?

In a word, it is FUN.

Model railroading encompasses history, research, engineering, electronics, artistry, lighting, sound, architecture, logistics, industrial archaeology, combustion technology, geology, painting, and learning how not to cut yourself with sharp tools.

And you get your hands dirty and busy. A great hobby.

On top of that, there are plenty of great people who share this hobby, making for great friendships and opportunities to share and learn.

There are plenty of great scales to model in, so I model in most of them.

N Scale (1 foot = 160 feet) A great scale for operations and large scenery, larger, more modern equipment works best for me.

HO Modeling (1 foot = 87 feet) Most common scale today, great balance of size and performance, combined with wide availability of products and raw materials.

S Scale (1 foot = 64 feet) Slightly larger than HO, a good scale to balance in with less materials but a great size for modeling. For me this is best for modeling narrow gauge (3' between the rails).
